Dodge Caravan - What does it mean when the speedometer goes all the way to the right before starting?

When we turn the key to start our car (a Dodge Caravan) the gauges (speedometer) go all the way from the left, to all the way to the right, back to all the way to the left, then they light up. Once the gauges light up, we have to turn the key in the ignition to the off position, and then turn the ignition back on and the car will attempt to start.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? Thanks for your help.|||I thought it was just what dodge caravans do. This is what mine does:

When the car is just sitting there, everything off, all the gauges needles are all the way to the right. The car has to be running for the needles to move back to the left, or to where they should be regarding what they are measuring. In other words, you get in the car and it always looks like you have a full tank of gas, until you start the car, bummer!

Bought my caravan new, and drove it 10 years.|||ALL gauges should 'default' to one side when the vehicle is off. In many vehicles, the computer sends them all to the extreme on BOTH sides as part of the 'self diagnosis' when the vehicle is started. What you describe sounds like NORMAL operation.
