How to tighten pulley on 2000 dodge caravan?

I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan with a 3-Liter V6. I'm replacing the pulley on the the belt tensioner. Is there a trick to keeping the tensioner from swinging down when tightening the pulley?|||the tensioner can only go so far. Go to the stop point and tighten it from there.
