Why should Matt Dodge have kicked the ball out of bounds in the Miracle at the New Meadowlands game?

Firstly, I'm still pretty new to football. Matt Dodge was harshly criticized for not kicking the ball out of bounds on the final play of the Giants/Eagles game last year, where Desean jackson returned the kick for the game-winning touchdown. What would have been the implications of Dodge kicking the ball out?|||The eagles would have taken possession of the football at the point it went out of bounds, thus eliminating the chance DeSean Jackson could have returned it for a touchdown. Jackson is one of the best playmakers in the NFL today so people think you should never kick to him. Not real sure I know why Dodge has taken so much flak for it though. Jackson could just as easily have beaten the Giants defense on a long pass as the punt return|||Well the Eagles would have had to take their chances with a hail mary pass instead of Jackson getting a chance to run in the open field on a return. It's very unlikely they would have scored a TD on a pass in that situation.|||The return never would have happened and the Eagles would have to rely on Vicks 2 minute drill which isnt too good|||To avoid a player from returning a punt TD that can lead to points. Plus there was barely no time on the clock.|||THIS WAS YEARS AGO
