What do i do about my locked dodge engine?

My dodge intrepid 2002, ran out of oil and as suggested by someone on yahoo! answers, the engine must have locked. A mechanic earlier said i'd need to replace the engine, but if the engine really is locked in the vehicle, what do i need to do?|||He didn't mean it was literally locked in the engine compartment. Vapor lock is a problem that mostly affects gasoline-fuelled internal combustion engines. It occurs when the liquid fuel changes state from liquid to gas while still in the fuel delivery system. This disrupts the operation of the fuel pump, causing loss of feed pressure to the carburetor or fuel injection system, resulting in transient loss of power or complete stalling. Restarting the engine from this state may be difficult. The fuel can vaporise due to being heated by the engine, by the local climate or due to a lower boiling point at high altitude. In regions where higher volatility fuels are used during the winter to improve the starting of the engine, the use of "winter" fuels during the summer can cause vapor lock to occur more readily.





That's a term that means "Vapor Lock"!|||Locked only means you ran it out of oil, ruined it, and it won't turn now, not that it is somehow locked in the where you can't remove it. Do you even know for sure that is the problem?





If you have a blown engine on a vehicle that old, I wouldn't invest in a new engine for it unless it has some other redeeming value and you want to keep it for some reason.





If you do decide to fix it, all you have to do is arrange for a tow to your mechanic, and have an open checkbook when it's finished.|||Go to a garage!|||the engine is seized i.e. bearings are metal to metal, no oil to separate the friction surface. You need a new (rebuilt or used) engine. Your best best if money is an issue is to get a used engine from a wrecker. try www.pamsauto.com. I here they have good prices on used engines.|||do what the mechanic told you|||THIS VEHICLE HAS THE 2.7 ENGINE AND IT WAS THE WORST MOTOR EVER BUILT.





EVEN IF YOU DID NOT RUN OUT OF OIL THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE LOCKED UP ANYWAY.





YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE IT OR BETTER YET BUY A DIFFERENT VEHICLE.

How to get in touch with a Dodge zone manager?

I have a warranty service issue with a Dodge dealer. I've asked to be put in contact with the zone manager but they have refused that request. The Chrysler "help" line number also refuses to initiate a case number. My car is not fixed and I've paid them an extraordinary amount of money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How many times should my auto 91 dodge Dakota shift?

I have a 1991 dodge Dakota and when I bought it some one told me that it was missing 2nd gear but it seems to shift just fine. But i don't know how many times it's supposed to shift.|||If you have the lockup OD transmission, you will have a one-two shift, a two-three shift, a three-OD shift and on mine and my wife's trucks we can feel the convertor lock (the lock is subtle) and see the tach drop about two-three hundred RPM.





So four shifts if you count the convertor lock.|||Here is an example to try and help you understand automatic transmissions listen and watch the speed and rpm gauges as you drive from for example 0-20, 20-40,40-60,60-80 kms an hr.You should see that the rpms go up and then the transmission shifts then the same thing will occur during every shift from 0-80 kms an hr and the rpms will stay up higher at higher speeds for example they might sit just under or higher then 2000 rpms at 80-120 kms an hr.

I have all cables but on the back of the radio there is no place for the RCA cables to plug into. Am i going to have to maybe plug them into the factory amplifier? If not, how can i hook it up? Basically a LOC splices into your existing speaker wire coming out from the back of your radio (which is High-Level Input) and converts that signal into RCA outputs (Low-Level Output), This is the cheapest way to achieve your goal. LOC's will run anywhere from $15-$100 depending on brand/quality/features/channels.

What type of Tranmission fluids is good for a 2000 Dodge Durango? I doing "NOT A FLUSH" I changing the gasket and the filter on the tranmission b/c is time already! The truck is not leaking from the gasket but the seal on the tranmission is broke is leaking tranny oil! I would Like to know if any tranmission fluids or gasket witch one is reccomended for Dodge? Where should I buy the filter and gasket at the dealership?|||Dodge calls for ATF+4. you can substitute dextron III only as a temporary solution. The permanant use of any transmission fluid that does not meet the ATF+4 specifications will cause an early failure of the transmission, I would recommend to find ATF+4 and save the hassle of trying other fluids. As far as filters go the ones available at NAPA or any other part store are good quality, keep in mind this transmission may have 2 filters in it, a traditional filter and a spin on one.|||B%26amp;M trick shift. Or ford type F. More friction material = harder shifts.|||ATF +4, that is was Dodge reccomends for this application. The gasket on this trans is reusable, but I would reccomend getting one at your local Dodge dealer (they need the help anyway). The filter is somewhat inexpensive but that gasket, if they have it, is about 35 bucks. They will prob reccomend you use ATF RTV for the gasket. part number 5010884AA. It works, but not as well as a real gakset. Good Luck|||Use ONLY ATF +4 for your transmission or risk transmission failure! ATF +4 is a full synthetic fluid. Do not use Dexron or Mercon.





Advance Auto has ATF +4, don't know how good it is but we are currently using it in the '02 Dodge Caravan in the fleet.

Is Dodge Durango(1998-2003) a good SUV for when it snowing and as a work and family vehicle?

I don't know to much about Dodge cars so your inputs would really help thank you in advance.|||the first generation of durangos('98 to '03) were among the best. when equipped with a V8 engine and four wheel drive, durangos seam unstoppable in the snow. the V8 engines offered from '98 to '03 included the 5.2 liter(230 HP),5.9 liter(245 HP),and the 4.7 liter(235 HP). there was also the 3.9 liter V6 that got better fuel mileage than the V8's but would not be sufficient for snow travel. as for a work vehicle,the durango isnt very economical for commuting with a V8 engine. it is definately a great family vehicle with the ability to carry 7 people with a decent sized cargo area in the back. hope this helps. good luck to ya|||Even as a Chrysler tech, I would say the 98-03 Durango's are only average suv's. The V-8 engines and trans are reliable, but not very fuel efficient. If you don't need the 3rd row seat, a Grand Cherokee may suit you better. Unless you are getting a Great Deal on the price, I would continue to look. Have you considered a 4-door truck?|||I had an 03 with the 4.7 liter and I loved it. The 4X4 worked great in the snow, never got stuck once. It had the 3rd row seating which is exactly what we needed. I really do miss that truck, though gas mileage wasn't great. I would recommend that truck to anyone.

To check out what the oil pressure really is . It might be a defective sending unit or a clogged oil filter . I think that your car should have around 20 to 30 pounds of oil pressure at any given time . When driving down the road.Also be sure that who ever used the proper weight oil for the high mileage %26amp; vehicle type . Did this start after the oil change? if so it might be the pressure relief valve in the oil filter . One other thing you could do is to go to a heavier weight oil.to compensate for the wear ,But this would only be temperary cure|||that can also be caused by a sludge build up in the oil pan or a bad sending unit on it,if it were me id change the sending unit first since they just cost about 30 bucks and see if that cured the problem, its the cheapest thing you can try on it right now,good luck.|||Hi! did you changed your oil filter? if NOT, that is probably the cause of your problem. Move on to another shop.|||That job most reputable shops can do in 35-45 minutes. Flat rate cant be anymore than 1.5 hours so no more than 150.00 for the labor. Control arm for that can be purchased through Dorman at a cost of @ 45-60 dollars new, so even with the typical shop markup of 250%, the part should run you @ 145.99 at a shop. I'd say 400.00 plus the cost of an alignment is more in line so the answer to your question is..that is high and not accurate.|||that's way to much money on repairing it,thats enough to replace just about every part of the front end and steering on it,go to another shop because their over chraging on this one real bad,good luck|||Its a 3 hour job with a 50$ used or 200$ new part... There would be a difference between a original hemi car vs. a 318 . An R/T vs. a plain jane stripper . Any special options ( factory sunroof , power windows and seats , color ) They are getting harder to get , So finding someone who wants it would figure out what they want to pay shouldn't be difficult unless it's an absolute crusty shell with major body damage .|||How about some pics and a vin number...Then we can give you a reasonable estimate..

I had a 03 dodge 1500 hemi that has a factory anti-theft system, but it was stolen and I remotely turn it on. Why does it say anti-theft when it was stolen with any sign of breakage?|||jsut getting a key made will not let tehm steal it. the key has to be programmed with a chrysler scan tool to start the truck. tehy could have gotten a key made to get into teh truck, but they still couldn't drive it.|||whoever stole it towed it or put it on a flatbed. The ram uses the sentry key anti-theft system, you need to have the key to start it because of the chip. Or they have a shady dealer connenction and had a key made.|||The Hemi scares them away...especially ford, chevy and toyota guys/gals.|||car thief's these days also keep up with technology,its very simple for them to get the vin number and have a key made for it,or make it them self,i have a neighbor that does re-po,s for a living and there isn't a car or truck made that he cant get in a drive off in it,when they make better alarm systems thief's just learn a way around them,nothing is fool proof these days,good luck.

I am 15 and I have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 regular cab short box 4x4. I want to lift it a little bit and put some mud tires on it. I don't want them to big because I use it for daily driving. So way size? Thanks.|||When lifting any vehicle you will notice a loss of power, increased braking,inaccurate speedometer readings and more body roll when turning. My 97 ram 1500 had 285/75R16 with no lift and cleared the fenders fine. The problem was that when cranking tightly the tires would rub the control arms. The factory size for your truck should be a 225/75R16|||Get 1 or 2 spaces wider then what the stock tire for your truck would be. If your getting new rims You can even go 3 or 4 spaces wider but I wouldn't recommend it.





The best way to see what tires will fit on your truck is to go to the auto shop and ask if you can get a sample tire to compare it to the other tires and see how it looks. Most places will agree to this.|||I'd sell the dodge first and get a better truck. You will learn early on that dodges are very problematic vehicles. You would do better to have ANY truck other than a dodge, but my PERSONAL preference is ford or chevrolet.

I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan 3.0 with 140000K on it. We have noticed over the last year or two that during the winter, sometimes, we have a hard time shifting from reverse into drive.Today it's hot out and it did it again. What does this mean? Is the transmission going? Can this be fixed?|||you need to try servicing the transmission first by changing the fluid and filter in it and then see if that helps it,sometimes when the filter gets dirty on the fluid will not circulate fast enough through the valve body and that causes the hesitation your feeling on it going in gear,tell ever who changes the fluid and filter whats its doing and they,ll also know of other things to look for on it that could cause that too happen,its probably not going out but running it like that ist to good for it,good luck with it.|||If you've not had the transmission fluid and filter changed on it I'd want to start there bec it's more then due to for it, also when you do that have the transmission module put into the learning mode.

I have a1998 Dodge Stratus with a check engine light. I don't quite know what the trouble code is because I haven't gotten it check out yet. The car is okay in park but when i put it in drive or reverse the engine starts running rough and misfiring and the steering wheel shakes violently. Is this one of the symptoms of a bad O2 sensor or Spark Plug Problems?|||it could be a bad 0-2 sensor or a bad set of plugs in it will even cause that to happen,when the plugs get so many miles on them the gap gets to far apart and causes a miss-fire in it under a load,have the computer scanned on it and id change the plugs in it also,any time you get a miss-fire code the plugs is the first thing you check,90 % of the time thats the main cause of one miss-firing,good luck with it.|||It could be anything from low idle speed, vacuum leak, bad plug wires, bad plugs, dirty fuel injectors, weak fuel pump, dirty fuel filter, bad ignition coil...blah blah blah. In other words, you won't be able to guess. You need a mechanic to check it out and fix the exact problem, Don't let them "guess" and start changing parts. Ask them directly when they suggest a repair, "This will fix this problem....right?" If the answer is not yes, don't do that work.

My Dodge truck picks up a bad vibration when on rough highway?

I have a 1994 Dodge 1500 that runs fine, however when at highway speeds, if I hit a rough patch of road, it picks up a very bad vibration. It feels like a tire going down. However all of the tires are fine, and if I pull over, it goes away. It runs fine at speed if the road is smooth, but on rough highway, this problem shows up. I'm sure its in the suspention, but don't know if its most likly a spring or shock or something else. Also, it's a rough road. It's gonna vibrate the **** out of you.

My tow truck driver managed to get it to start by holding some part of the carb open while it was started but I am unable to duplicate this, Can anyone help?|||Hold the throttle wide open and open the choke flap on top of the carb. The easiest way to do this alone would be to remove the air cleaner, open the little flappy thing on top of the carb. Place a large screwdriver or tool into the orifice to hold it open. Then get in the car and crank the engine while holding the gas pedal to the floor.


This is the procedure for starting a flooded engine. Holding these 2 flaps open (choke and throttle) provides maximum air to the engine to dry out excess fuel.


You see in fact the "gas" pedal is really an "air" pedal lol


Have the carb rebuilt or at least change the fuel filter and stop messing around with it.|||Ok first you have to be shure the choke is working. Here is how to tell.


First press the gas peddle down to the flor 1 time. (Do not Pump)


Now take off the air filter and look into the carb. If you can see down into it the choke is not working and you need to get it fixed. Some chokes are electric, some work on vaccumn, and still others work by heat. If the choke is not working and it is open all the way, you can pump the gas as you are starting.





In this case it sounds like the choke is stuck closed and thus it is feeding to much gas to the carb. It sounds like this is the case, the carb is flooding the engine with to much gas.


When the guy opened the choke it got the air it neede to start.


Checn to see if after the car warms up that that choke plate is now open.


Thank you for your question|||yes there's a choke, pump gas peddle three times then release gas peddle then start engine, engine should start and choke should be closed if you flooded carburetor then take off air filter and hold top choke open and bottom barrel open for two minutes then repeat first step|||Take off the air filter cover on the top of the carb with the engine off. Look down through the top of the carb. You should see a butterfly flap on a hinge right at the carb opening. If you can stick your finger into the opening without obstruction, your choke valve or butterfly as it is sometimes called, is missing. It may start anyway when cold if you pump the gas many times and then crank the engine, even without the choke valve.

A mechanic told her in her face that is very bad for the vehicle but she still does it! Is this true?|||It's not great for any vehicle. An internal combustion engine runs best and most efficiently when under partial load.


When idling, a couple of things may happen: 1) the most severe damage may be to the connecting rod bearings. Because of the relatively slow speed of the engine, more pressure is exerted on the bottom center and top center of the bearings. The faster the engine turns, the load gets spread out more evenly over the bearing surface.


2)The other effect is not so drastic. It is an idling engine may not get hot enough to start the catalytic convert working or hot enough to run efficiently. It may also load up the catalytic converter with fuel that could lead to an early demise of the catalytic converter.


As you already know, it is also a great waste of money ( as the truck is getting exactly 0.00 MPG while idling ) and it is bad for the environment.|||The HEMI can handle anything including rippin toyota, ford and gm apart.

My 96 dodge pick up usually gets 21-23mpg, with out pulling any thing. Any one know what it gets while pulling heavy loads?|||if its running right you,ll average about 12-14 maybe more with it,we use one to go to the car sale with and it gets about 14 hauling two cars,and that's running about 65 miles an hour with it,but it never drops below that,and that's a constant mileage also,our trailer is little heavier then most though,for us its cheaper to bring them back than to pay to have them brought back,good luck.|||All depends on how heavy your talking. My 97 gets 12 to 13 pulling 22,000lbs at 55 to 60 mph. And anywhere between 18 and 22 with no load.|||Gas mileage all depends on terrain and how fast you are going. Do you do a lot of stop and go driving? Or is it mostly highway? And depending on how heavy the load is that you are towing. Say you are towing a 2 horse trailer. So say you have 2, 1000 lb horses on a 3000 lb horse trailer. Towing 5,000 lbs and traveling at 60-65 mph, i would suspect your gas mileage would drop to about 13-15 mpg highway. Not reving any more that 2,200 RPM. But like i said, gas mileage has many factors. Maintenance, how heavy your foot is, the terrain, they type of tire you have on the vehicle, how much air you have in your tires, etc. I believe the stock tire size on your truck is a LT 245/75R 16, E rated or 10 ply. A highway terrain tire or HT is what i would recommend especially because it is a diesel and diesels do not work well with All-terrain (AT) tires. If you have stock tires with the manufactures recommended tire pressure which is 65 PSI in the front and 80 PSI in the back. 80 PSI in the back when you are towing, 65 in the back when you are not towing, it will give you a better ride quality. I dont see why you wouldnt get any less than 14 MPG when towing approx. 5000 pounds. I hope I answered your question.|||Stock motor with turbo about 14 but that is a lot of weight for a 3/4 ton. Manual says max weight is 14000 lbs a dually would be a lot safer and a lot easier on you and the truck less sway on the trailer and less wear on the truck. The truck will haul it but it won't be easy

The truck has 144,000 miles on it and i am woundering typicaly how many miles you could put on a truck like this.|||they last real good if you,ll change the timing chain and gears in them around the 150 thousand mile mark,i own two dakota,s and both of them run real good, both are high mileage,like 220 on one and about 160 on the other one,the only problems you might have from it will be the transmission may give some problems in it around the 200 thousand mile mark,i put one in my truck a few weeks ago,it made it to 220 thousand though,other than that if you,ll keep up with the maintenance on it you should get some more miles from it,no one can say for sure how long the one your buying might last,but they do hold up pretty well,good luck.|||it really depends on how previous owners have treated the truck. if it was taken care of the truck should be good for at least 250,000 if it wasnt then it could be at the end of its life. best to listen to the engine if it sounds good then it should be ok. check the oil fill cap and dip stick. if it looks a grayish color then its no good. check radiater for dark brown color could mean inside of block is rusty.|||I put 300,000 on mine.

During 2005, Dodge made the Dodge Neon SE, Dodge Neon SXT, and the Dodge Neon SRT-4. If the car really looked sporty and tuned up then it is a Srt-4 for sure and those are stocked turbocharged. If the car is a little sporty but still looks like a regular compact 4 cylinder then it probably is the SXT. The SE model is the basic model of the neon category. They are pretty good cars, but I would suggest trading it at about 130,000 miles. They are known for being excellent cheap cars but not 100% dependable after about 100,00 miles. From 2000-2005 Dodge started making the cars less dependable as the first generation which was from 95-99. At 85,000 miles I had to replace the head gasket because it cracked due to overheating since 2.0 liter engines have heating issues. Other than that and a few kinks dodge refused to work out its been a good first car for me and I'm at 94,000 miles.|||i have an 05 neon, its been great to me so far. ive had only 1 prob in 50,000 miles and that was a cam position sensor going out which made the kn ock sendors freak. 100$ fix on warranty. theyre great cars and if you get one get a 5spd, as the autos are not known for their stregnth.

How do you take the serpentine belt off of a 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan?

I have a 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan SE with a 3.3 liter V6 engine. I am replacing the alternator which just died and also the serpentine belt which is cracking. My current issue is with getting the serpentine belt off. I know there's a tensioner pulley but I have no idea which one it is. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!|||If you do your own work, go get yourself a manual, it will take you step by step (and with pictures) so that you will be able to find it, and do the job without breaking anything! "Haynes Auto Repair" manuals are as good as they come, - and cost about $20 or less at lots of auto parts stores (I buy mine at AutoZone)! Get a book for your year and model - it tells you how to do everything except rebuild transmission! I've only been at it for a little over 55 years, but I buy a manual that covers every car I get, - it saves me time and money (and possibly breaking things)!





Check and see how your timing belt is too,-- breaking one is not "convenient"!|||go to autozone and buy a tensioner tool... they are like $20...you'll need it........oh and while you are there purchase a book on your van....they are only like 15 or 20 bucks.....this will give you invaluable information for doing your own repairs and maintenance.......oh and as a side note the book will show you a diagram of your belt formation including labels so you can find that pesky tensioner!!!!|||Drive it off a cliff. It ought to come loose that way.


Or drive it into a dealer and let them do it, while you buy a new car.|||The tensioner pulley has a nut in it's center, probably about 15/16" or 21mm. Or it may have a 1/2'' drive square slot, that a 1/2'' breaker bar is used to rotate.


Using the correct size wrench, and being prepared for a large amount of tension, rotate the tensioner via the pulley nut. Or via the breaker bar,as the case may be.


It will only move in one direction.


It might take two people, one to hold the tensioner while the other removes/replaces the belt. You might be able to jam your wrench in place, be carefull, it has alot of resistance. Once the belt is off, check the tensioner by spinning it and listening/feeling for noise/vibration/roughness.


If any of the afrementioned is present, replace it.|||the idler pulley is on a spring loaded arm that you can relieve the tension on the belt be putting a wrench on it and swinging the arm untill the belt is loose...it's not the crank,water pump or any other pulley,it's only purpose is to keep belt tight|||The tension pulley is on the right side when looking from the passenger seat. It takes a special tool to release it. It has spring tension. The tool looks like a long bent tire iron. I think all serpentine belts are cracked after a year or two, that doesn't mean it is worn out. If its the original it is probably due for replacement however.

How hard is it to replace a heater core in a Dodge Ram truck?

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. The coolant was pouring out the bottom. I took it in and was told that I need to have the heater core replaced, thermostat replaced, and a coolant flush. The estimate was $600. Is this a decent price? Is it work that can be done without a repair shop? Any answers are greatly appreciated.|||You have to evacuate the A/C system and pull the whole dash out in order to get to the heater core. Pay the $600.00.|||Its not that hard, but if they are going to do it for 600 buck parts and labor thats not a bad price. I did it but i have access to a machine to suck the freon out also, if you dont then you shouldnt do the job. Releasing that crap in the air is bad. the rest of the job is more time consuming!

I mean, the shop can do it in a day with just one mechanic working. You will need some specialist tools if you have A/C. you will probably need to see a chiropractor to fix your back afterwards. Just make sure that the person who sits in the third row, either does not mind the limited leg room, or is short enough (it did not bother my 5' 2" wife) that it is not an issue.

I am in the market for a new Dodge Ram 1500 slt and I know better than to pay sticker but I am looking for advice on how much below sticker I should offer.|||right now they,ll give about 5 grand on the sale of a new vehicle,and a lot of the time what they,ll do is up the amount of the trade in you offer them to make it seem like your getting a lot better deal on what your buying,their not going to give in that much especially since the sales of the new rams has picked up,you can get at least 3500.00 bucks knocked off it right from the beginning though,and then most of the time they,ll double the price of the trade in,good luck|||at the least talk them down 3000 and that would be for a standard truck with no extras, make sure you point out to them that the 2010 will go down on there own soon and you could just wait a few months to november, also shop around online at other dealers up to about 100-200 miles away farther then your willing to drive and if they have a cheaper sticker price try and talk them 3k lower then that, then on top of that after dealing and wheeling and signing papers right before you sign the big ones that make everything final act like your not conftrable with it you money right now and might back out, they wont feel like doing this and might knock a month or two of payments off the top or at the end.


Also you can pretty much talk them into adding you a year of satalite radio or onstar and stuff like that if you decide to buy a truck that has those options.


Good luck and i would not buy if you cant get at least 3k off the truck including straight cost and extra goodies they will add.

I am hoping to install a seat that folds down into a bed in my 1996 dodge Caravan as well as curtains and a variety of other live-in options for traveling. Does anyone have any advice or recources I should check out?|||buy a Mobile home it goes just as fast and as far as a dodge can go.|||BAsically, you're trying to turn it into a mini-RV. Sounds kinda neat.


You might go look at some VW Vanagons that have camping stuff in them. Little sink, stove, heater, etc. Would get you some ideas.





In fact, you might be able to take some of the VW stuff out and put into the Caravan, since the VW stuff is already made for such a small vehicle.


But it'd also involve some free-styling installations. Might have to do some costly changes to the Caravan to get those things to work. But at least the VW stuff is ready-made for that kind of camping purpose.





Friend of mine installed a huge dobule bed in his older 1976 VW Van.


He installed a plywood bottom piece, supported by 2x4's in middle of van. He drives across country all time, and sleeps in that. It's hard in winter, because no heater. He heats bottles of water and puts into sleeping bag to help provide heat during winter night, but they obviously don't last.


His bed frame work stays up all the time, so it also doubles as cargo area, like an extra huge shelf.

I have an 2001 dodge neon and the the brake light that is located in the middle of the trunk lid is out. I have the bulb and everything i just can't figure out how to get it in there.|||go to the store, buy another light bulb. Pop the trunk, and access the light, it should twist and then pull out, remove the old bulb, install the new one, push in the new bulb and twist the socket again, step on the brakes and the light should work again.

Just make sure that yr2000 tranny is hydro clutch setup. The neon tranny's gear ratio( 3.55) is higher then the eclipse (3.94)

I have a chance to buy a 2000 Dodge Stratus sight unseen. The seller says the engine turns over really fast as if the timing belt is off or broken. Is there a common problem with these cars that causes belt failure? Also, is it an interference engine?|||more than likely the timing chain tensioner may have got worn out on it and that caused it to break or age or neglect will cause it,that might be one you want to stay away from though it may cost more to repair it than its actually worth,good luck.|||They want you to change the belt every 60,000 miles. if not then your Looking for trouble. Most people don't do it and they wonder why they have problems. This is not a interference engine|||Timing belts wear out just like anything else, there's a lot of load on them. Many manufactures recommend you replace them every 60 thousand miles.|||the only thing that usually causes a timing belt to break is age. Most manufactures recommend that they be replaced every 50,000 -60,000 miles.





Some vehicles that break a timing belt that have minimal clearance between pstons and valves can end up bending valves as the pistons and valves smash together when the belt breaks.. but not sure about this model... Ring Dodge and ask the workshop if that damage might occur|||I would not buy it! Personal opinion only.|||Don't buy it. Could be bent valves, bad cam, a backfire due to jumped timing. You don't want to get in this mess.|||the belt is 8 years old, how long do you think such a belt should last. this is normal wear on an 8 year old car.|||If the belt broke, the engine is junk because it is most definately an interference engine. The only thing that would cause a timing belt to break would be age, wear, heat and friction. Also the timing tensioner may have failed causing belt to fail also. PS - it looks like the pics on that thread are kaput, which stinks. On my 04, the connector is above the pedals (it's blue colored, IIRC). I had to unplug the main harness connector to get room to plug in the controller.

Where do I start to take a radio out of my Dodge Ram?

Recently I asked about a bad radio in my Dodge Ram. The answer was to replace it. I am grateful for the answer, but where does one begin? Do you have to take out the whole dash or is there a simple pop out part that reveals some screws to loosen?|||the bezel around the radio just pops out after you remove the screws from the cup holder bracket and the ash tray bracket,but be careful doing this ,then there's two screws that hold the radio in,once they are removed then you pull out wards on the radio and unplug the wires from it and remove the ground strap from the back of it,on the drivers side of the bezel piece of trim there a few hidden screws that you have to remove also,just take your time with it,if it feels like its in bind at any time stop and look for hidden screws,it takes about 20 minutes to change one of those out,good luck,|||your very welcome.

|||Try to locate a shop manual for your truck. You may get lucjy and find one at a library (Chilton's) or you may have to buy one. I got one for my car on ebay, the whole manual was a PDF on cd for $10. A reg manual will be ~$50.|||you have to take part of the dash apart but becareful there is alot of stuff you can break|||It can't be a big deal, and most newer vehicles use pop out clips without any screws on the bezel. Once thats off there will be 4 screws on newer rams

However, the 3.0L engine is a little worse since it is run by the timing belt.|||If its located on the out side, its as easy as taking off the belt unbolting it, and breaking it loose to take it off.Its pretty simple just make sure you lubricate the O-ring with some type of silicone grease before installing it back in and tighen down the bolts good.|||Have you ever tried anything like this before? Thanks for the help!|||my sons car RF tie rod broke off at the ball joint, bought one for 26bucks at parts store , with common tools we had it fixed in a hour, I've done this before, if you have no talent or tools , the shop will charge you $65 to look at the problem, and $65 a hr. times 2 to repair, plus the parts at there cost , then charge you for a front end alignment ,my guess is somewhere in the ballpark of $250, the new tie rods come with zert grease fittings , get it fix and keep them greased, ad void pot holes,|||cheap. parts prob like 30-40 bucks at napa auto parts or your local auto store. and then the labor 50-75 bucks at a local repair shop or it might be more expensive at a midas, or a les shwab tires....

Is it easy to change a belt tensioner on a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Every time I drive in the rain, my S-belt keeps on slipping out. I always have to put it back on, so I got a new S-belt and it still slips out whenever I drive in the rain. Does that mean that I have to change the belt tensioner and is it easy to do for a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan? Any advice will help. Thank you in advance.|||Yes change the belt tensioner before you junk another belt.....easy job, take the bolt out of the center of the tensioner,should come off at this time, align peg of new tensioner with hole, replace bolt, put breaker bar or ratchet in square hole and put the new belt on...

If either than it is the tensioner. Rather simple job just a bit tight getting to it.|||It sounds like you could use a new tensioner. It is very easy to change. If you've changed your belt yourself than you can handle this without a problem.|||On models equipped with the 3.0L Mitsubishi V6 there are TWO belts. One main ribbed serpentine belt that drives all accessories and one conventional 'v'-belt that drives the A/C compressor with its own tensioner. This particular model was very prone to having the serpentine belt fall off under varying conditions. Chrysler's "fix" for this issue was to install a shield on the tensioner to prevent the belt from slipping off.





However, since you mention the model is a Grand Caravan, I'm assuming it is equipped with the 3.3/3.8L V6. On these models there is only ONE belt that drives ALL accessories. The tensioner itself is secured to the accessory mounting bracket by one 15mm nut from behind. To access this may be tricky. It would probably be easier to access this fastener from underneath the vehicle, using a 15mm shallow swivel type socket and LONG 3/8" drive extension with ratchet. As for the belt. Simply route the belt on all the accessories as they are supposed to go, leaving the smooth idler pulley as to the last when tension is released from the tensioner. Hope this helps.
